Welcome to you, friend!
THE PET GODDESS· SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2017
I grew up in varying types of wilderness. We always had dogs, gardens, music and community.A huge part of my "intelligence" with animals comes from my JMU degree in Animal behavior/ B.S. and then moving to Alaska ... I moved to Alaska to pay off my student loans in 1986 and ended up staying for almost 10 years. I also got my teaching degree at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks and student taught five different sciences in a Russian Orthodox k-12 school in Ninilchik, Alaska.
I lived with approximately 100 sled dogs and an Iditarod dog musher in South Central Alaskain 1987 next to the Old Believer Russian Village near Homer.
Dave ran the Iditarod, a 1000 mile , sled dog race yearly. So, our life moved in two main rhythms. .After break up, in the spring, we pack the dogs and move to fish camp on the river. Land to Ocean. A beautiful rhythm for life .
I have such gratitude for getting the life I dreamt of as a child. this, and many, many more amazing adventures . I've always been an explorer of this planet..... I started young. I have lived or been to most continents.
My neighbors, next to our cabin/dog camp were Old Believer's. They are a strict religious group of souls. I was often invited to play volleyball in the school, for fun, with the girls. The Old Believers have their own school , so it thrilling to go inside of it! The women may only wear dresses and their hair is scarved.
I also worked for the Dept. of Fish and Game in South Central Alaska. I worked on a project in the commercial salmon sector tagging and relocating clipped dorsal finned Silver salmon into the northern Susitna drainage .
I also worked on a project in Homer Alaska with US Fish and Wildlife. I was helping a senior biologist complete an annotated bibliography of seabirds and got to take the maiden voyage on the Tiglax, USFW dream research ship.
I prefer to be outside, work on my on land and home and play way way too much finger style guitar each day of my life. Looking for the next
B I O M E to explore !
I have a deep and instant comfort with any dog I meet. I think many of my clients will confirm this. My clients haven't strayed in years. As far as small animals ,dogs and cats, I do an a.m. and p.m. visit . I NOW except animals in my own home located in the central part of the county. I am the Official pet sitter for The Inn clients and I care for non pet accepting BnB's.
If you choose A.M. /P.M. visits, which are in your home, you take a big chunk of stress out of the picture for your animals when you are gone. We keep a big piece of familarity and ease by letting an animal remain in his setting. This works perfectly for stressed/strongly attached pets.
I now also offer the luxury of keeping them in my home in Rappahannock.
